Whaler’s Quest is a family-owned and operated tour company, established in 2019, located at Red Bay National Historic Site & UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Skipper
With nearly 35 years as a local fisherman, Rick brings unmatched expertise in boat operation, navigation, and ocean safety. Having spent his life on the waters of the Strait of Belle Isle, he fished alongside his father before taking over the family vessel.
As Captain, Rick ensures every tour is safe, engaging, and memorable, sharing local stories, insights, and his deep knowledge of the coastline along the way.
First Mate
Shena combines resourcefulness, deep local knowledge, and a lifelong connection to Labrador’s culture. With a background in environmental studies and experience as a heavy equipment operator, she brings both curiosity and practical skill to every tour.
Growing up in a large fishing family, Shena spent summers on the water, developing a love and respect for the ocean that she now shares with every guest.

Our Vessel: The Perfect Timing I
Perfect Timing I is our 40-passenger Transport Canada–approved vessel, built for comfort, safety, and unforgettable views. The open lower deck offers seating for all, while the 10-person flybridge gives a spectacular 360° vantage point over Red Bay and the Strait of Belle Isle. Inside the wheelhouse, guests will find shelter from the elements, gender-neutral washrooms, limited seating, and refreshments. All tours include bar service, traditional music, and live entertainment when available.
Guided by Rick, our lifelong fisherman and skipper, and Shena, First Mate and tour guide, every journey blends local expertise with storytelling, sharing the history and hidden wonders of our coast. Our tours feature hands-on experiences like checking the ocean temperature and viewing the harbour floor and surrounding habitat with our underwater camera, bringing Red Bay’s waters to life for every guest.
